Simple Pleasure #4

This one is more like a simple guilty pleasure.  In honor of the new super-the-boiling-point-season, my ultimate guilty pleasure is…

Degrassi: The Next Generation

I don’t believe there is anyone who couldn’t enjoy a good re-run of Degrassi.  Or a good 3 hours of re-runs either.  This show is seriously enjoyable, and I know I am not alone when I say I am super-stoked for the new ridiculous season in which there will be a new episode every night mon-fri for the rest of the summer, and I have totally tuned in at least 3 out of 5 days of each week to watch a few episodes during their every-episode-ever-aired marathon.

Degrassi is the absolute top-dog when it comes to ridiculous high school shows.  What can I say? “It Goes There” .  No other show can be this outrageous and this Canadian and remain on the air with about a billion viewers for 10 years.  Did I mention this is their 10th season coming up?  Happy 10 years, Degrassi.  When I need my dose of high school drama, to feel as if I am back in high school again (okay, not really), I will come to you.  If there is nothing else on television, I will watch you.  When conversation lacks pizazz, I will talk about you.  When I just really need to know what hairstyle Spinner is rockin’, or who Manny or Emma will end up with next, I just can’t resist.  Thank you, Degrassi, the guiltiest of pleasures.  Secret Life of the American Teenager has nothing on you. ;D

P.S.  I love every Canadian ounce of your “aboot”s, “sorrie”‘s , and “eh?”s.

Who Needs Sleep?

Who Needs Sleep?

My insomnia seems to be back in full force. It has been hell trying to get to sleep nearly every night.

Although today was great, it should also have been tiring. Two cookouts with swimming and fireworks, chasing around my Goddaughter and keeping up with everything going on.. It is ridiculous that I can’t sleep. It is impossible to shut off a stressed and depressed brain though.

Depression sucks. And mine is getting worse. Night time is always the worst. Even if you aren’t alone, being the only one awake is excruciatingly lonely. Your thoughts turn against you, you think the worst of everything, and sometimes you get to that point of “There is nothing good in my life…I can’t freaking stand my life…I can’t take this anymore”–and of course the language and imagery are much more violently colorful in your mind–in my mind right now– and you just know (I just know) it is a bad night.

I can’t wait for my doctors’ appointment: a sentence I thought would never even cross my mind and yet I am typing it out for the whole Internets to see. Hah.

I guess I should be proud, that although I can not sleep to save my life, and I am horribly depressed, that I can now for the most part rationalize it. I still have suicidal urges, hell, I am convinced that once you think it once or maybe for long enough, that it never totally goes away– That is a door that once opened, you will never completely close– but now I can almost always know that doing anything to hurt myself is not logical and that I am not thinking correctly when I think those things. I mean, seriously, almost always. No one is always that logical. I have struggled with depression for about 6 years now though, and I am still a survivor.

I guess I am just saying, damn I really want to get back on my antidepressants and my sleep aid would be great right now, but hey at least I can tell myself that I want to live when I get suicidal? Lol.

Or this is just totally irrelevant rambling.  Still, I can praise myself for not killing myself when the chemicals in my brain tell me it’s a good idea even when I’m not on any meds, but, my depression still has way more of a hold on me than I wish it did.  Sometimes I think it will always be that way.

I can’t even sleep.  Can’t even stop thinking so much.

Lame.

Bare feet

How appropriate, right?  Maybe we should get more specific… Dancing barefoot? In the rain? ;]

I prefer to do most things barefoot.  Dancing.  Driving.  Walking on the beach.  Climbing, which is also a lot of fun.  Running.  Swimming.

Shoes are completely overrated, especially in the summer.

Take Them Off!

Sunday Stumbles

Sunday Stumbles

Mm, the art of StumbleUpon.  SU is definitely one of the most addicting tools on the internet today.  I would like to take the time to share the best of my early stumbles for this Sunday morning.

First favorite stumble of the day: foodgawker

This site is deliciously appealing.  They seem to have taken one of the most delicious items from each of their listed recipe sites and featured them.  I am convinced that I must make my own homemade raspberry ice cream, as well as blueberry ice cream pie, and maybe some pizza puffs? Okay, now I’m starving. Like I said, the site is worth a look, especially if you are looking for some new recipes or even some new recipe sites for reference.

Next stumble for the morning: Kaboodle “Owl decor”

You may or may not have heard of the shopping site kaboodle.com …really, I’m sure you have.  I ” stumbled upon” some adorable owl merch and recommend you check out the slide show as well, vases, towels, dishes, purses….  Owls are freaking cute.

Number three on the stumblings: Drawings of Leo Da’Vinci

This one is pretty self-explanatory.  Enjoying the sketches from the brilliant mind of Leonardo, clearly a good stumble.  It’s amazing, and a little terrifying, seeing these works that are obviously advanced concepts and theories and not just doodles in an old notepad.  Beautiful, dark, and brilliant.

And lastly, and I’m stopping here mostly because my Goddaughter will be dropped off soon and I need to be babysitting…

Fourth and Final Stumble for the morning: Price Tag Fails

Slightlywarped.com’s “Curiosities: Price Tag Fails”… this one is just funny, and who doesn’t need something to smile about?  Besides, I need to give you some kind of balance here and clearly SU was much too serious this morning up until this point. Recipes and cute animal homeware? Leonardo? Very nice but not in the same way as this last one. Enjoy.

Oh, and you should probably do your own Stumbling too. I mean, I can tell you about some of the sweet stuff that I find… but, you could probably just go on and find even more rad stuff all by your lonesome by clicking right here. Enjoy your Sunday everyone! Maybe you’ll hear more from me later! :)

Simple Pleasure #1

My new “every Saturday” post, as an initiative to blog, is going to be Simple Pleasures. I think breathing in life’s simplest of pleasures as often as possible is very important. So, if you sense a trend a week or two from today, well garsh you figured me out. ;)

Simple Pleasure number one:

Swinging

No, not the kind of swinging your parents or grandparents used to do at those crazy key-swapping parties… The throwback to your childhood, wind in your hair, on top of the world glee you can find on that giant swing set at the park.  This has got to be one of the most freeing experiences ever.  When you have the time–and really, you should make the time–please go find your nearest park with a playground, and indulge.  I promise that for at least a brief moment you can feel weightless and carefree.

Things Worth Trying (At Least Once) #1

Things Worth Trying (At Least Once) #1

So, I’m trying out some new ideas for the blog. One of which is something that may or may not continue every Thursday. “Things Worth Trying…At Least Once”. Today’s, or tonight’s rather, is Pandora radio. If you haven’t used it I’m sure you have heard of it. Give it a try. It’s worth it, more than once. Go on and create a station, you can just start out with one artist or song you like and go from there. Radio stations that play music you like all the time? Worth it.
